Hi Folks!
I tried to convert several Grand Prix Legends (Racing Sim) Movies
(different formats and sizes (AVI,mpeg 1,etc) to SVCD using TMPGEnc
(2.5).
Everything works fine (correct aspect ratio) *but* when I play them back
on TV (on a normal one - no 16:9) using my standalone DVD Player
Pioneer 444 (4x3 Pan & Scan Mode) left and right of the screen there are
a few bits missing - I mean they are cut of...
Ok - it's possible to get the whole picture on my TV using the 4x3 Mode
of my DVD 444 but then the picture is getting squeezed horizontally - I
mean I got two very large "cinema" black bars horizontally (no correct
aspect ratio anymore)
My question is: Is there a way of getting the *whole* picture on TV
using TMPGEnc without any squeezing? Perhaps I has to be reduced in size
keeping aspect ratio while converted to Mpeg2? Is there any way to get
it right?
For example I tried a movie called gplmonza.mpg.
The source resolution is 640*380 (IMO) (can't be changed before using
TMPGenc - cause the movie is rendered in this way)
When viewing it on TV (4x3 Pan & Scan Mode) the intro screen should
show:
"my first win at monza", but the word "my" is nearly cut of on the far
left of the screen...
I tried a few settings on TMPGEnc without changing anything in the
end.... For example source output 1:1 (VGA) or 4:3 Display. Also I tried
in the menu Video arrange Method "Full Screen" or "no margin" without
getting it right and changing anything at all in the output mpeg2....
Please Help!
Thanks!

Try full screen(keep aspect ratio[2]). Source aspect ratio depends on the source.

@truman
That didn't work...
But I found a way. Here's the solution just in case somebody else got the same/similar problem in the future:
The input movie is in 640*380
So i used the TMPGENC Option: (Video arrange Method) Center (custom size) 320*380 pixels - et voila - everything fits perfect on my tv - but the movie is too small. Then i tried a few other values. 435*495 is great - fits well to the 4*3 mode of my Pioneer DV 444 without any squeezing!

My guess is that the video was captured with "TV cropping". This way it would look right on a PC, but played back on a TV, another cropping would occur, and hence part of the image lost! Your sollution is the way to go, but it would be easier to capture without the TV cropping. But of course I don't know if you captured yourself!
Anyway... Nice that you found the sollution yourself!
