It seems that my ACM codecs are fine. I've just re compressed an audio af a video successfully using video direct stream copy mode and audio lame 22500 whatever...

But when I try to put a video together consisting of image sequence (png) and audio wav PCM 44100Hz stereo 2116Kbps i get the following behavior:
    - audio compression: lame not available (the same lame I used for the test vid above)
It indicates that something is messed up already, but let's continue:
    - I have to check "show all" to get any choice at all
    - some compression selected
    - OK
    - the audio compression dialogue opened again - the selection didn't stick; if Save as AVI is selected now, a video will save withot any compression.

    Any thoughts?

That usually means the format of the audio isn't acceptable to Lame. Use Audio -> Conversion to get it into something Lame will accept. For example, 44100 Hz, 16 bit, stereo.

Damn it. Another jugling in already cumbersome workflow with VirtualDUB

Anyway, thanks for your help! Please let me know if I can do it faster/easier than simply doing the compression in audacity and then VirtualDUB - audi - direct stream copy.

  4. I've had the same problem with various avi files that have mp3 or mp2 audio, Virtual Dub can't open them or can't recode them.

  5. Then you need an ACM MP3 or MP2 decoder. Try installing a recent version of LAME ACM.
