I've got a DVP5990/37 with the last firmware from vb6rocod (Jan 2010). The manual says DivX .mp4 video should play, but I'm getting a "video codec not supported" error. Audio plays. The origin of the three files I've tried are from mine or someone else's streaming from TV. Any ideas?

Why didn't you keep this in the 5990 thread? It would have been okay there, too.

The 5990 will only play .mp4s if they're DivX/Xvid video streams and MP3 audio streams (maybe AAC/AC3) muxed into an .mp4 container, or an .avi renamed to .mp4. In short, it has to fit basically the same criteria as an .avi/.divx file.

Use MediaInfo or GSpot to check the videos' information and see if they fit those criteria.

(Edit: Do you mean MP4 as in the .mp4 container, or MP4 as in MPEG-4 video (DivX/Xvid, in this case) in an AVI container? Either way, posting the results from either MediaInfo or GSpot on one of the 'problem' videos might help.)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  3. The 5990 will play MPEG 4 Part 2 video (Divx/Xvid) in an MP4 container. It will not play MPEG 4 Part 10 (h.264, AVC) in an MP4 container.
