I have an ADSTech VideoXpress USB device, and have installed the VideoXpress CD Ver2.2 disc on both my laptop and desk top, both Windows XP, and neither of them will run the CapWiz software. The disc also containes muvee6 autoProducer and Instant VideoXpress which both work o.k.
Reinstalling makes no difference. Clicking on the CapWiz Icon gives the message DV0001 Unable to initiate USB device etc but after stepping through the instalation wizard I do get the Capture Wizard screen. Clicking Record or Preview gets the message CW0005 Unable to detect USB Capture Device. I have sent an e-mail to the ADSTech Help Desk but have had nothing from them.
I have been struggling with this problem for some time so you can imagine how pleased I was to find this forum.
Any help in this matter would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

The message error you are receiving is because it is looking for the hardware mpeg encoder chips to communiate/send instructions to, but can't find it, hence your error message.

The CapWiz is a GUI for the ADS lines of their hardware mpeg encoders. The Instant DVD and DVD Xpress were both hardware mpeg encoders, and needed a front-end to configure their functions.

The VideoXpress (a USB-2 device) is not a hardware mpeg encoder. It is a real-time lossless/uncompressed unit, and requires a hefty cpu speed for the usb-2 throughput w/out frame drops. However, if you use the Ulead sutie, it will handle captures without frame drops thanks to its proprietory mpeg encoder plugin. It comes with the Ulead studio suites, and I think the MUVE and Moviefactory, suites.

vhelp, my problem is similar, and hope you can confirm my suspicion that the problem is in the ADS hardware.

I've had my ADS Instant DVD USB2.20 for a couple years now. It's been trouble-free sending VHS tapes to the computer for burning to DVD.

Today I'm trying something different, burning shows from my daughter's TiVo for my wife. The TiVo has a composite output, same as the ADS's input. I've confirmed the TiVo is putting out a good signal by connecting it to a TV with a coax cable.

Since the last time I used the ADS, I got a new computer (Dell 530), running Vista instead of the old computer's XP. Still and all, the drivers loaded without error, not even "this software may not be compatible....do you still want to continue, etc."

Problem is, the status light on the ADS box never blinks, and when I click on the CapWiz icon, an error message comes up, "CW005: Unable to detect USB capture device."

But that doesn't make sense, because when I unplug the USB cable, I get a "ding" and when I plug it back in another ding sound.

Also, in Control Panel / System, Sound-video-game controllers, the ADS 2.0 is displayed without yellow or red alerts.

So the device is seen by Vista, the drivers are loaded.

Why isn't it picking up an input?

Oh, yeah, I tried a different composite cable. No help.

And I tried inputting a signal from the VCR (as worked before). No help.

It's got to be Vista, not the ADS hardware or XP driver. Reason I say that is because I took the ADS hardware and its software to my older XP machine, and it worked perfectly.
