  1. I've tried different SVCD on my APEX AD-5131 nad can't even get them to play. I hit play and nothing happens. Is it the type of SVCD, the bitrates used. Have anyone else had a similar problem to this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance

  2. What are you using to create your SVCD's?

  3. TMPGenc, and some of the SVCD are ones I downloaded from the newsgroups.

  5. I meant, what are you using to author the SVCD?

If you use Nero, along with a menu, you'll probably have to hit "1" on the remote to start the movie playing. If you aren't using any menus, the SVCD should start playing right after you put it in. If you use TSCV and menus, you should be able to start the movie by pressing "1" or "Play", depending on how you have your menu set up.

You can also try placing an MP3 in one of the sub folders of your SVCD. If your DVD player comes up with a folder view, you probably aren't creating an SVCD with the correct format.

If none of these things work, you may have to replace your DVD Player. Apex is notorious for creating cheap and unreliable players.

  7. Odd, my APEX 5131 has played everything I have thrown at it so far, even the cheap silver 15 cent CDR's from Best Buy.

What program are you using to burn the SVCD?

  8. I also have the 5131 - I have had no problems and it has been a good DVD player. It will play properly formatted SVCD discs with MPEG streams that are correct. It will also play MPEG streams on an ISO-CD-ROM as long as the file extension is ".mpg" and not ".mp2".

Most likely your problem is what you have created is an incorrect SVCD formatted disc. I use Nero 5.5 to burn my discs and get excellent results.

Now because I have Ulead Video Studio 6 and it genereates invalid MPEG-2 files I burn to ISO-CR-ROM to get arroung that problem until Ulead upates it with a patch. I do miss the Menu creation though.

  9. do not use the meg2 selection with Tpmpeg. Make sure you are using the Super VCD template. I also use the apex 5131 and it works perfect

    good luck

  10. interesting.. i do not own an apex ad-5131.. however.. i own an apex 600a.. and apex 1500.. and i know these players can play just about anything you toss at it.. no matter what kind ofmedia and burn speed.. and by reading the replies above.. this definitely is a problem due to the format you used to burn this *svcd* .. so check on how you burned the svcd..
