    I have got a toshiba lcd tv which has a monitor port and a PC AV channel thing so I bought a cable for the port and when I tried it the screen was blank but my laptop was displaying the windows home screen.

    Do I need to download and software or do I need to buy any other cables? Please help

    What type of port? VGA? Composite?, S-Video?

    Check the laptop manual for dual monitor instructions. There should be a display manager utility. These vary by laptop manufacturer and the display chipset used.
