Hey everybody. I've got some HD camcorder footage that I have already edited using Pinnacle Studio 14. The output file is an 8.5 Gb MP4. I used the MPEG-4 (Best Quality) settings. The output video plays perfectly on my PC.
The Problem is when I try to play it on my big screen. I go into my home server through my xbox 360, select the file and hit play but I then run into an error that says that it can't play the content because it may not be supported. It was my understanding that the 360 could play MP4's. Anyway, I brought up Handbrake and converted the output file using the high profile preset. I've used that preset before and I know its worked on my 360. This time though the converted file won't even play on my PC!
If anyone has any ideas on how to get this MP4 to play on my 360 I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

as far as I can tell- although MP4 is the format, its also the container, and not the specific video codec, so it can include just about any kind of codec within it, eg an MP4 with either mpeg4 ASP, or AVC (H264) video with AAC audio, or even divx/xvid. Im not sure exactly what content the xbox supports for MP4 video, so when you're converting you would have to make sure that you choose the MP4 option thats supported.
I was having problems running MP4 on my mobile phone, until I changed my MP4s to use H264 video. If you want to know what your MP4 videos contain, download and play your MP4 videos with VLC Player, and while the video is running, click on "tools > codec info > codec details" and note the info under the video section. If lowering the quality/bitrate of your files in conversion doesnt help, and the 360 supports all MP4, then it would seem you are not alone with 360s playing up with video-u might get better help/info on forums such as this:-http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=643022
good lucklet us know how u get on. I think someone mentions on the above site that files cannot be larger than 4Gb, and also here :-http://www.avforums.com/forums/streamers-network-media-players/741398-360-avoid-4gb-fi...-limit-hd.html

Wow, can't believe I never heard that. Ill try the WMV-HD method. Here's the codec info. Seems pretty standard to me..

The following settings work for playing .MP4 files on the Xbox 360.
File size:
The end file size must be less than 4GB: not 4GB, less than 4GB.
Audio codec:
AAC Stereo @128kbps or less, no VBR.
No AC3, no Dolby Pro Logic II, no AAC 6 Channel Discrete!
Video codec:
AVC/H.264 (video bitrate does not seem to be an issue)"First god damn week of winter." --R.J. MacReady -
Well after 14 or so hours of processing/rendering...whatever, of the WMV file...success! Came out to 10.8 Gb. Its having trouble streaming over the wireless though (lags). Haven't had time to try wired. Ill keep you informed

It works great when wired. I wouldn't have figured that a 54Mbps connection would lag a 15Mbps video but whatever. Thank you all for the help, seriously.
