    Hi,
I have an Asus M2N68-AM SE2 mobo. Windows XP SP3, Bought a camcorder, dv firewire. When, I open any video editing programs, Sony Vegas, WMM, etc.... cam is not detected. Using onboard firewire.

Do I need to purchase port firewire card ? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Did you install the IEEE-1394 driver from the ASUS CD?

Better to download the latest version.

Try WinDV for DV stream to DV-AVI file.

    Hi Ed,
Thanks for reply. No firewire driver on Asus cd. Went to hardware, manual setup, dialog box states 1394 controller has no drivers.

Did research and cannot find drivers for Asus firewire port. Nor could I find anything from Microsoft. Apparently should work just plug/play. Well, I'll purchase a firewire card to see, if that resolves the issue.

Maybe your problem is the same as mine. The onboard firewire port was working since day one when I got my MSI motherboard. One day it just stopped working so I had to use my spare firewire card.

    Hi Joy,
Thanks for reply. Beginning to learn, Asus firewire port is not optimal. Hopefully, firewire card, resolves issue, will update progress.

Hope it's not the camcorder. This happened to me earlier this year with a Canon HV20. The Firewire port was DOA.

You always should be careful when connecting firewire devices to a PC.
Specially the firewire with sony camcorders are prone to get damaged when conected to a working PC.

I personally turn off my PC and camcorder when connecting everything.
