  1. I want to transfer streams to my PC from Scientific-Atlantic 8300HD.

It says I need to install firestb, but it says I need MMC 2005, which I do not have.

Is there another way to get firmware to use without MMC?

From all the reading that I've done, you need a MAC to capture HD from firewire. The firewire drivers in Windows machines are crap.

Some people say they can capture SD and recorded shows but myself and 99.9% of everyone in the forums I've read have had no luck at all. I'm using a SA 8240HDC. I can see the picture using VLC but the picture is all screwed up every ten seconds and the audio drops out for long periods. It is totally unwatchable for me. Someone suggested using Graphedit but I can't get the pins to connect. I don't think it would help though since everything seems to lead to the drivers.

I'm going to buy a Hauppauge HD 1212 PVR next month. It's a lot cheaper than buying a MAC.

Well, I was able to watch recorded programs with VLC but no live programs. Now I can't get anything, even after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

Every file I've ever tried to record, I get a huge file with no audio or video data.

Maybe Jagabo will chime in since he had his scientific Atlantic box working.

I reverted windows to the last good configuration and reinstalled the drivers. I deleted the VLC 1.1.1 folder and installed VLC 1.1.0 and was able to view the HD files again.

I installed Graph Studio and used the filters that I tried in Graph Edit and was able to capture the HD content although it was all screwed up.

I cannot however view or capture SD video.

Every time I try to view or capture a file that cannot be captured, my computer crashes and I have to restart it.
