This is the job : convert an AVI file to DVD format with subtitling. I've tried ANY2DVD and WINAVI 10.0
These are the results :
ANY2DVD : it takes too long, almost 2 hours, video quality is much degraded and no way to make subtitles appear.
WINAVE : I'd prefer to find a solution with this program, it's fast and video quality is quite good. But there seems to be some problems with audio conversion. First try : video and subtitling work fine but no audio at all. I was suggested to decompress audio so I found a tool which did the job. The result was a new larger AVI file which seems to have an audio stream (PCM_S16LE).
Second try : now I do have sound but the subtitles do not appear.
It is just some home video fun and should not be so annoying to get this job well done. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Start with mediainfo tree view so we know what your source is.
Personally, I have never found WinAVI to be the answer to anything - except maybe if you really long for a migraine and just can't get one on your own.
ConvertXtoDVD is fast, cheap and reasonable if not great.
AVStoDVD is high quality, and consequently slower, but does a far better job than WinAVI could every hope to achieve.Read my blog here.

Now, as suggested I tried another program (AVStoDVD). Once everything is set up and the project starts and after a few minutes I get the following message : "MPEG2 enconder stopped working" and no other information but to purge or close. Attached is the log file. As far as my eyes can see I'm starting to believe every program has its own phantoms. Regards. -
The file may be corrupted.
