  1. I have a Insignia stand alone DVD recorder (NS-DVR1) that I bought for 20.00 from craigs list. It has worked fine for about a year, then started having problems reading discs. I took it apart and carefully cleaned the lense and it worked fine for a short time then had the same problem again. My question is:

Is it worth it to replace the DVD drive? It looks very similar to a PC DVD-R drive, and I have the tools/skills to get it done. I sent an e-mail to Insignia but they are no help.

    Any suggestions?

  4. videopoo - I have never riden anywhere without dodging trees. I want to ride in Moab, UT some day. I'm glad you enjoyed my vids. Me and my riding buds have a blast.

V Bot - Do you have a Insignia DVD stand alone? What model #? I wonder if this same drive will work in mine? What was the Newegg part #? How much was it? How can I find out if it will work?

    Sorry for the dummy questions....

There's a list of drives that work as replacement burners for Ilo, Daytek and LiteOn 5xxx model recorders at http://club.myce.com/f102/replacement-drives-liteon-5xxx-recorders-207698/, but I don't know if they work for Insignia recorders. Unfortunately they are older discontinued drives that are hard to find.

I have used LG optical drives in LG DVD recorders, and in a supermarket brand (Tevion / Aldi). Just plug in and go.

  8. ...Or you can buy another from craigslist for $20.00 and spend more time riding!

Moab is a beautiful place. Just remember that sandstone is the same hardness as concrete
