A friend of my said he could rip a DVD movie from his cd-drive, he doesn't own a dvd-drive.
Can this be done with any software?

    Thank you for replies

You do need a DVD-ROM drive in order to rip DVD movies. The reason why is because the lasers between the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives are that the dvd drive uses a denser laser and thus being able to read the data on the disc.
