PAL and NTSC machines - minor differences?

This is going to be a tricky question as most people probably don't own both. Since similar VCR's were sold as both PAL and NTSC (with different model numbers), does the video performance that one model gives change for the different video standards?

The reason I ask is that I picked up a Panasonic NV-FJ630 (PAL) VCR and although this is a late (2002) and fairly flimsy feeling deck I am astounded at the quality. It is sharp but not grainy - and that means some processing is going on. I almost see a buffer effect but it is not obvious. Script is sharply rendered without ghosting or sharpening artefacts.

So, if this VCR has an NTSC version and it performs as per the PAL deck it is worth your time at least trying it.

It really depends on the level of VCR.
For consumer range models, it can vary highly.
For professional range models, not much variance at all.
