Hello all
I am looking to do some editing work with and author, a home movie project that was created with Sony's DVD Architect Pro. I received the programs project file (the .dar file) and all the raw creation files from the original author and it was suspected that I might be able to use DVD Architect Studio to do this with, which only cost's $39.95 to which I did buy.
But although they look the same, once I try to open the project file, it tells me that since it was created with the "Pro" version, it could not be opened.
Now as far as I can see the only way I can get the "Pro" version would be to buy the Vegas Pro suit, which runs for like almost $600.00, but first of all I don't need any of Vegas part for anything an then at $600.00 this puts this way outside of the cost of a simple home movie project.
Just to mention it, oddly I was able to find a link on Sony's website to download a trial version of the "Pro" version I am referring to and that has opened the project but I think that will only last for 30 days.
So not that I have any high hopes for this but does anyone know of anyway I can purchase just the "Pro" version of this program?
Just to mention, I have seen a few places on the net where they state it is for sale as a lone program, but they all seem a bit sketchy to me and I just don't want to get ripped off.
I guess by that statement I am saying, if anyone here has a link to one of these that they know for sure it is not a scam that would be very helpful.
Thanks for any help.

You can't buy DVD Architect Pro as an individual application at retail. It only comes packaged with Vegas Pro.
You might be able to buy it from a Vegas Pro owner who has not yet installed or registered it. DVD Architect Pro comes on a separate disc and has separate activation keys. Sony may not allow splitting the package in the TOS. I don't know. They also may not activate it from a separate owner account.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Thanks for the reply, edDV.
Almost sounds like even if I were to luck out and find a version for sale and it was legit, that it still might be in a violation.
One other pretty bizarre thing too, the version that I bought (the studio version) as I mentioned was $39.95 and the program reads in size, 122,022 KB. Then the trial version of Pro which as far as I can tell is the full version just timed for 30 days reads 90,430 kb.
Not that this directed at you edDV, but I'm supposed to pay $600.00 for that ????
Yes I know Vegas is the reason but none the less at the end of the day it is still true that to get the pro version that is what I would have to pay.
All in all I just don't understand, especially if the program on a completely separate disk and lic number, why they just can't sell it separately?
Anyway, thanks for the reply anyway edDV -
