  1. The following are the info about hardware and software.

    Camcorder: Sony DCR-TRV17 NTSC
Video Capture card & software: Studio DV with 1394 firewire, Pinnacle systems
Software to convert MPEG to VCD: VCDeasy 1.0.8 (freeware)
    CD-RW: LG 24x10x4x0
    DVD Player: GYNCO AV-8001G

By Sudio DV, I make a movie from mini DV tape in format of Mpeg, VCD. The extension of file is .mpeg which can be played by RealPlayer or windows MediaPlayer. In terms of VCDeasy1.0.8, I convert .mpeg files to VCD files system containing .dat file. This VCD files system is exactly same as the market VCD.

VCDeasy will automatically initiate CD-RW and burn on CD-ROM. I tried three formats, VCD1.1, VCD2.0 and SVCD1.0. None of them can be recognized by GYNCO AV-8001G DVD player but I can play them well in PC.

  2. It is not possible to use the same mpg file for
both VCD and SVCD. There are different type mpeg and size.

Look like your VCD burner does not check, and thus does not
    warn you about problem.

The most common burner software is Nero, or CD creator, give them a try.

How's is your DV to VCD conversion result ?
Is they video quality decent ?

  3. Yes, you are right. By Sudio DV, I make a movie from mini DV tape in format of MPG.

I am using Easy CD Creator 5. But it has Video Burner in the link on the menu. It cost money. I need to buy it.

I will try your advice. Thanks anyway.

  4. I am not familiar with the brand of your DVD player. Is it spec'ed to read CD-R and/or CD-R/W media. I have a Philips DVD player and it is not spec'ed to play recordable media. I have experimented with it and discovered that it plays CD-R/W discs but not CD-R discs.
