If there is a Fry's Electronics store near you get a Color Corrector, about $100-150, usually in the TV section, the size of a playstation box, and will remove macrovision from video signal.

thanks for the response.. but is there anything cheaper? more around the 20 buck range? cause i don't think its really worth 100 buck.. just to copy my dvd's into my vcr? so is there anything cheaper?

Well, another option is to get a video output monitor adapter. Play your dvd on your computer, plug the monitor output into your vcr, and also sound card output too! I do this a lot, and the quality is very good. I have a TView Micro XGA, and think it was about $40.

You want cheap? How's free sound? If you have a CD burner and know the exact make/model of your DVD player, you can download firmware hacks/updates that give you the option of turning your Macrovision on/off, among other things. The update is simply burned to a CD-R(W) and placed in the DVD player, which reflashes the ROM. Try the DVD player reports section on this site. To access many of the hack links you have to be signed up to certain Yahoo usegroups (different ones for different players), so you may have to sign up for a Yahoo name first (no biggie). For all the work it is worth it. . .and you won't have to buy a box.

It depends on what player you have--some brands don't have firmware hacks. That will have to be checked on since the brand of DVD player was not posted here. Many common DVD player brands have hacks. . I would try looking for that option first, and if/when you have exhausted that possibility, go for the box. In that case, try E-Bay--you could probably pick up an old box for next to nothing.
