  1. Let's see if I can describe the scenario I am in: I captured a *.mpg file in VCD format. Found out that it's a hair more than the CD can store. I am trying to may be reduce the quality of the audio a little bit and have a smaller file.
Can some one please give me a quick run through of what I need to do or is it even possible.
    Thanks ahead for any help.

  2. Use TMPGE and re-encode using one of the templates found in VCDHELP.COM tools section.
I use Sefy's with great success.(up to 96 mins with little depreciation in quality)

  3. What I have is a made and done VCD mpg file. I used TMPGE and De-multiplexed the file to get the video and audio files. What I want to do is hopefully reduce the size of the audio file just a little bit (I don't mind loosing some quality) and them multiplex the video and audio back together and have a slightly smaller file and fit on one CD. The problem I am getting is that TMPGE accepts the video file I have but will not accept the audio file (keep getting: cannot open or unsupported message).
Again, what I am working with is a mpg file I recorded from the VCR, not some files from DVD I rip.
And many thanks for the help.

  4. You may have to extract the audio as a a WAV using this method...
    www.vcdgelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm
Using Virtualdub.....then use TMPGE again only this time use the resulting WAV as the audio source. In TMPGE settings you can go to Audio and bring it down to 128kb which is quite acceptable audio quality.(it will also reduce the size of the overall file).
By the way....you have to have lots of space because the WAV file extraction is usually quite large).

  6. Tried that virtualdubaudio and TMPGE accepted the wav audio. Everything is O.K. now.
    Pat yourself in the back.
    Thanks a million.
