Hey guys, I have a DVD in 4:3 format that I would like to make 16:9 but as you all know, cropping the entire movie would mean that in some scenes, heads etc are cut off, I was wondering if there's a way to crop the movie differently pretty much scene by scene or frame by frame so that you have the same resolution throughout the movie but the cropping is different in some places (like more on top or more on bottom in some scenes). Anyone know how to do this?

The few times I have had to do this, mainly to mix 4:3 and 16:9 material, I have used Vegas. This allows me to use Track Motion and keyframing to animate the location of the image within the 16:9 frame. Basically like a true Pan and Scan. If you can do a whole scene in a single movement it isn't so bad. if you have to do a lot of movement in the frame it can be quite time consuming, and rarely looks as good a real camera moves.

You can also do this with Virtualdub via a Widow Cropper plugin written by Khaver over at HV20.com: http://www.hv20.com/showpost.php?p=282380&postcount=7
