Hi there,
i have been working to create a decent 25 fps PAL VCD or SVCD of some clips i have, one is some olympic speed skating. ie Fast, smooth moving "objects".
I have my avi file taken from my canopus ADVC-100, when i convert it to SVCD mpeg2 using TMPGEnc or Video Vegas 3 the skaters move smoothly round the rink, but the closeups of the skaters show a lot of blockiness (vegas is worse than TMPG naturally). CBR or VBR, i cant get rid of blockiness for close, fast moving scenes. Any higher with the bitrate and my pioneer DVD player starts clipping and coughing, lowering the frame size makes screwy playback, so making a SVCD is out.
Fortunately, making a VCD is much better. I have been making a mpeg1 file with the birate cranked to 2200, the lower resolution helps the conversion process and makes blockiness virtually disappear. Excellent. Theres only one problem....the skaters now STUTTER around the rink on TV instead of move smoothly.
As i understand it, VCD must be non-interlaced. TMPGENC automaticially sets this output setting when you chose the VCD template....ive also turned on and off the De-interlacer filter, and swapped its settings, but the skaters still shake round the rink when burned to a VCD and watched on TV. Same for the Video Vegas 3 meg1-created file. Seeing stuttering automatically rings interlacing issue bells...but I cant seem to create an interlaced mpeg1 file even if i wanted to as the settings are all greyed out.
Is this an anamolity of VCD that i will never get rid of? or is there another process that needs to be performed on the mpeg1 files to get it to look as smooth as the SVCD?
Many, many thanks for your response,
Blackout.
