I'm getting 'System Integrity Check' with more frequency in my Dish 625. It's an older one, and I own it; not leased.

I called Dish, and they said they'll replace it with a new (or refurb) 625 for postage. Problem is, I have 2 spare disks with some recordings on them, and am wondering if they'll play in the new 625.

Strange thing, the drive in the DVR (and the spares, they're identical WD2500JB-57REAO), are NOT on the 625 list that I got here a few years ago:

    Any ideas?

Dish says this about external HDDs for your DVR: "If the receiver used to record the event is no longer available (due to an equipment return, for example), the content can still be viewed using a compatible receiver or replacement receiver on the account.

    Thanks!

Makes sense, but I don't know if that capability applies to internal drives. And of course, their policy on LEASED equipment is that tampering can void the warranty.

So since mine is old, and not leased, and the warranty expired years ago, the situation is JUST a little different...

Anyone else with experience in this situation?

  4. That statement above is for the VIP series that can use a external USB drive.

I'd want to visit the satellite forums such as www.dbstalk.com or satelliteguys.us and ask my question. I know that in the 501/508/510 series the hard drive was married to the receiver.

There are also Yahoo groups dealing with extracting recordings off of the 511/625 drives.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

Just to be clear, the situation is that these are spare internal drives and the replacement DVR will be leased? Opening the replacement DVR will be a violation of your lease, so you want to be sure it will work?

If viewing these recordings using your computer is an option, you might try PVRExplorer on the spare drives to see if some recordings can be salvaged that way. http://sourceforge.net/projects/pvrexplorer-pro/
