  1. Hi All!

It's my first post, and I hope this is the right place to post.

I'm trying to split a DIVX video without recompression and from reading the great articles on videohelp, I see that virtualdub seems to be the preferred software.

I installed Virtualdub 1.9.9 and it installed fine, but when I tried to open the movie, It gave me the following error:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)"
"VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Winows Meia Player, are not suitable."

I then read more on Videohelp and based on some articles, I tried installing ffdshow but got the same error. Then I tried K-lite codec pack, and i still get the same error.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something small, has anyone had this problem? And how'd you solve it?

    Thanks in advance.

Please note that MediaInfo on the video file is: (Thanks again!!)

Hi, onlinesol. If you installed ffdshow and it's still not working, then you may still need to set ffdshow as your DIVX decoder.

In whatever Win7/Vista use for a Start menu, go to ffdshow | VFW Configuration. Make sure the Decoder tab is selected at the top, then click on Codecs and set DivX 4/5/6 in the right pane (3rd entry down) to libavcodec. That should do it.
    Best,

You might try installing the DivX codec like it suggested.

    DivX Plus

http://www.divx.com/ (it will change all your movie file types to DivX player)

    old versions

  9. Start -> All Programs -> ffdshow -> VFW Decoder Configuration -> Codecs (left pane) -> Divx 4/5/6 -> libavcodec or Xvid (pulldown) --> Apply (button). Then restart VirtualDub.
