    please give more info!

What is the mkv framerate? Identify using mediainfo.
What did you convert, pal or ntsc?
Does the dvd play stutter on your computer with a software dvd player?
Have you tried convert with something else like the FREE dvd flick or avstodvd?

Try instead convert to ntsc. Most dvd players supports both system.

PAL and NTSC has nothing to do with region coding. And you are making a region free dvd so it wont affect any region settings.

Make sure that when it converted to NTSC it converted to 29.920 fps NTSC, and not 23.976 fps NTSC. I would use AVStoDVD for this.

Crashed it how ? Never seen it do that, and I have installed and run it on many systems. You could try FAVC or ConvertXtoDVD, but it sounds like you have system issues to deal with first.

This sounds like hardware issues, like bad psu or motherboard, or overheating

Some computer virus can cause this as well
