Okay, this is driving me nuts.
We know that the specifations for DVD Video X Resolution are 720 , 704 and 352. So when converting a 720 X res DVD movie to VCD (352) is it better to just convert the entire DVD frame to VCD (keeping aspect ratio or not) or first clip the 720 to 704 and then convert to VCD?

704>352 is closer to the true aspect than 720>352, but it's not something that really matters. oh, and i'd like to add a pre-emptive '**** off *******!' should koalabear respond to this thread

Yeah I was just wondering tho, as would a DVD player actually display a slightly wider picture when in 720 mode as opposed to 704 or 352. I leaning towards clipping 720 by 8 on each side to get 704 because that would most likely get a better image when scaled down exactly by 2. Just a thought.
