The movie I am trying to rip is an IMAX and it does not seem to work. I have tried to do this on win 7 and xp. On Win7 I could get the iso to mount, but BDR failed. On XP the iso wouldn't even mount, although other iso's were ok when tested. Even MultiAVCHD didn't work (it seemed to find the segments OK but the result was no movie). Has anyone else tried an IMAX movie with success?

It's not against the rules here to actually name what you are trying to rip. If someone knew of an issue specific to your movie they might be able to help you - if they knew what that movie was. You don't say what your ripping software is, but do note that if this is a very new release, you might have to wait for an update to DVDFab or AnyDVD.

XP doesn't come with drivers for UDF 2.50 so that might be why it won't mount. Installing the free UDFReader program might help on XP.

as a caveat - it's ok to name it if you own it and are trying to make a personal backup copy. that wouldn't apply to a blu-ray that comes with a dvd backup in the box.

    Why not ?
Some people like to make a higher quality MKV backup or something for a portable player or HTPC from the bluray

Just because you get a bluray with an identical copy on dvd doesn't mean you can;t make a backup or alternate copy for what ever reason you want....
    LOL!!

Although who know's because as jman98 pointed out, he really gave zero info on how or what he was doing

Sorry about that. The movie is UNDER THE SEA. It is the IMAX version. I am using the guide posted by MilOtis on converting BR to DVD5 using BDR. (I had posted this earlier - sorry for the dbl post with some of the same information. I just felt like this was actually two topics). I have the latest recommended versions of all the software - or newer (per the guide). The errors in BDR show I have the following problems:

    - AVISYNTH Version: 2.6.0.1, not recommended version
    - HAALI Splitter: Isn't recommended version
    - FFDSHOW: 3370, not recommended version

My question about this is that I seem to be able to do other conversions with no problems. I had just finished Avatar before starting this one. It is almost like the iso is corrupt or something, although I tried both anydvd and imgburn. Not sure exactly, I just know I am on the verge of having spent just a little too much time trying to figure this out. I am not a complete newbie at this, but still learning. I just wonder if it is giving problems because it's an IMAX...
