Hi everyone.
I have experience with DV tape cameras, such as the Canon GL 2. I am used to editing with that camera on Final Cut Software.
I am looking to buy the best HD camera to edit on my MacBook Pro Lap Top using Final Cut Express Software.
Uses: Everything from narrative films both indoors and outdoors to documentaries.
Please help me find the best quality camera for around the 2k range. (A lot of people are suggesting the Canon 7d. Thoughts?)

The Canon 550D is functionally equivalent and is $800. That'll give you an extra $1200 for external mics/recorders, tripod, lenses.

The 7D will be more with lenses and audio support equipment.
I assume you want to be mobile with a laptop. A DSLR kit with lenses and audio support requires an extra bag plus tripods. I've been doing this for a long time. Everything I carry (laptop+camcorder+camera+accessories) needs to fit in a carry on bag. That means I leave the SLR and big lens shoulder cams at home or in checked cases.
I still think the Canon HV40 is the best way to go especially for Macbook Pro and FCE. That leaves $$ for a good point and shoot and more.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
