My two-month-old Samsung combo Blu-Ray reader/dvd burner now fails to verify due to "Failed to Read Sector 3368518 - Reason: L-EC Uncorrectable Error" within Imgburn. This happens near the end of the second layer of DL discs (different sectors). After three such failures with Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, from two different spindles, I replaced the drive with an older Pioneer, which burns and verifies just fine. I assume the Samsung drive is dying.
Am I missing something here? Could something else give the same symptom?

Unfortunately, it does sound like a burner failure. Verbatim and ImgBurn is about as good as it gets for DL burning. If the Pioneer was using the same cables, etc., as the Samsung, then it seems the burner itself is the problem.
But verification is not an exact science. If the discs play properly is more important. It may be a flawed part in the burner from the factory. It happens. If it's under warranty, good time to RMA it. Or if it still reads BDs correctly, I'd probably just use it for that and add a inexpensive DVD burner. -
Well that was fun. The day I reported the problem to Samsung was the day they changed their exchange policy - for the better. After several emails, I was able to exchange the drive at a local computer store. End of problem.
