I'm about to go on a trip and want to match my 35mm SLR stills to use in my 1440x1080i HDV.
How do I develop the stills the same frame size as the HDV?
    Thx

Now I might have misread what you require and I also no expert on digital photography.

But I do not think you can match them without some distortion of the original picture. Your 35mm still will be a pure 4:3 picture. With my camera, the highest definition creates an image 4272 * 2848 px. The nearest you could resize that would be 1440 * 960 and place that image on a background using photoshop or similar with a small border on either side. If you attempt to fill the screen you will distort the picture.

Like I said, if I have misread your request perhaps you can clarify it and I can have another think about it.

choose the max and resize/pan&scan to 16/9 in vegas on the timeline. i thought 35mm film was 3:2 - 36mmx24mm but i could be wrong.

Sorry. My mistake. That is what happens when you try to reply when you should be in bed.

It has been suggested that you can also crop the image. As long as you are happy to lose detail but if you are careful when you actually take the picture and allow for that........
