OK .... first let me start with saying I am dumb as dirt when it comes to this.

I have only make a couple of CD's some years ago with small mp4 files.

I have a Panasonic FZ1000. I shot video last night of my wife's chorus. The camera has a 30 min video limit. It can shoot 4K but I shot it in 1080p60 H264/avc 16:9.

I found help on this site to combine my two video's into one. The video is 39 min long and 7.9 GB ( WOW ), with a m2ts file extention.

I did want to put this onto a standard DVD if possible ( 4.7 GB) if possible.

I have windows 7 and linux mint ( dual boot ... still learing linux ).

So, first is is possible to "squeeze" 7.9 GB video onto a 4.7 GB disc?

Next, I need to cut out parts of this video ( just junk at the beginning and end ) .... how to I do this ... use a program that edits m2ts files or change it to mp4's first and then edit or ?????

What program do I use to edit this ( something free in windows or linux )?

What program should I use to burn DVD's ( again some freeware if possible .... windows or linux )?

I don't plan on becoming an expert at making dvd's. I normally would just save the videos but a bunch of relatives and people in the chorus are asking for copies ( guess they don't have youtube ... I was able to load my m2ts video's here directly ). None of us have blue ray players and I have about 50 4.7GB (DVD-R) blank disc's so.

    Thanks so much ..... Mike

Do you want a dvd-video(720x480 pixels)???

Or just burn as m2ts files on a dvd? Or author as a blu-ray/avchd on a dvd? Then can you keep it in 1080p.

    edit: I guess you want a dvd-video then...as you have no blu-ray players. .

You can convert to DVD-video with the free AVStoDVD or DVDStyler. YOu can make basic menus in those too.

Edit the m2ts with....hmm... you could use the free tsmuxer to cut/split at the beginning and end. And also join/append. But there is no preview so you have type in the time codes. Then output as a new m2ts.

  4. In both AVStoDVD as well as DVDStyler you can "trim" the video. In AVStoDVD highlight your video and use Ctrl+E to edit it. The trim is made on the Avisynth tab and given as frames.

In DVDStyler doubleclick a video to get its property sheet. Then click on the three dots next to video to to gets its Video Property and you can have a visual editor to specify start/end time.

    Awesome guys!

Again, I am not trying to be an expert. This just happens once or twice a year when everyone wants a dvd of the chorus performing. Most of the DVD's will got people like my mother who refuses to get a computer.

Last year I was still using a 12 year old camera that gave MPG videos. This new camera just made me learn what m2ts video's even were.

I used tsMuxeR and eac3to (found the tutorial on how to use a batch file) to join them together.

I will try AVStoDVD and DVDStyler to see if I can make some DVD's tonight.

    Thanks for all the advice!

Depending on how things go, I may be asking for help again tomorrow.

    Mike

  6. Since it's a chorus performance I would expect it to be a series of songs. You migth consider having each songs as "chapters" on the DVD and having menu buttons to play the songs as well as a button to play the whole DVD. I made a Youtube video on how to do that with DVDStyler.
