I recently purchased Death Race on Blu Ray which comes with digital copy of the movie on a seperate dvd disc. This is my first Blu Ray that comes with a digital copy and having heard about digital copy, wanting to know what its all about.
Popped the disc into my PC, connected to the net, loading up and it states the licence has expired. The leaflet that came with disc which includes the authentication code states the licence may not be valid after 26/01/10.
Not that im concerned, just wanting to check it out, but I fail to see the point in including a digital copy that is bloated with DRM and a licence code that expires even before you bought the disc. Is this the industries way of cutting down on piracy?
What is the whole point of a digital copy of the movie (which would be lower resolution than a DVD) when you have the 1080P Blu Ray. I fail to see the point. What are the movie studios exactly trying to play at?

It's just Hollywood's way of giving you a copy of the video you can load onto your iPod or other portable media player and go. (Doesn't mean it's the best way, as you've discovered.)
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
The copy is DRM protected and you need an internet account to get the key. An extra disc came with my BR of Star Trek but I had to join iTunes to get the key and the wmv version forces you to have MS WMP11 on your computer or you can't download the key. I rolled back wmp11 a while back when I thought it was the cause of a problem so I'm still using 10. If I want the key for the wmv file, I will have to reinstall wmp11. Since the video files are on the disc what possible reason is there that they can't include the key on the same disc!
I watched ST on BR with the PS3 hooked to a 24" monitor but I was really hoping for a divx copy so my wife could watch it on another tv connected to a divx enabled player. I won't be buying those special costlier sets anymore.
btw) To the op
In it's current form like you I have no use for this copy. They are probably preparing for the day when all media players will have to be DRM enabled. There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
