  1. hi ppl,

i'm tryin to record tv output from my ati aiw 128, to hd and when i play it back the sound is loud and distorted. it makes no difference whatever the levels of sound selected in the volume control. the output is always the same.

i have the latest ati drivers, and multimedia centre. atm, the aiw is connected to a vcr via composite connector. if i playback this way the volume is ok. if i playback tv via the antenna, then playback is also distorted.

  2. I am having the exact same problem. ATI AIW 128 card with 32MB running on an AMD 800, 128MB, Win2k SP2. Sound card is Aureal. Watching the sound is fine, but record and playback the sound is very distorted and loud.

I think I got it!! Andru - Open your sound control and set the recording Line In very very low, but not off. That should do the trick!

  4. Not the regular volume.
If the speaker sits down next to your clock in the right corner, double-click it.

Click on Options > Properties and fill in the radial button for Recording and click on OK.

Drag the Line In as low as it will go without turning it off.

  5. To set the recording volume for recording, double-click on the speaker icon in the tray and select options/properites

Select "adjust volume for recording" and hit OK.

Then adjust the volume for your sound input source (line, aux whatever it happens to be).

Since the volume is a slider, it is hard to get an exact volume level. I use a free program called Sound Control Plus which lets you adjust the sound to an exact level such as "27%". You can also set hot keys to adjust to a default level. That way, once you find the proper level, you can always adjust to that level.

Sound control plus can be found here: http://software.reallyeffective.co.uk/scp_index.html
