  1. End of my rope....end of my damn rope....

I apologize beforehand for posting yet another thread on such a common question, but I've read DOZENS of posts on this problem, with DOZENS of opinions, so before I start trial and error and waste days encoding, burning and failing, I want an opinion or two (dozen) that will cater to my specific problem.

I have a PRISTINE copy of Empire Strikes Back I downloaded in DivX format. 25fps....(640X272). I live in the US, have a 16:9 TV, and I want to preserve the 640X272, HOWEVER, I fear that after encoding in TMPEnc with this whole 1:1 VGA and fullscreen(keep aspect ratio) garbage, that Nero will screw me (apect ratio-wise) when it goes to burn....OR, I'll deny its re-encoding, and it wont play at all in my standalone.

Further info....when I play the DivX in the Player 2.0, I get no black bars...just the active resolution (640X272)...yet in Windows Media Player I get the bars -- just wanted to share that just in case. ALSO....this puppy plays fast in both applications. Han Solo doesnt sound cool....he sounds like he's coming off a helium high, and everyone is moving just a tad fast (not jerky, just quick). I know this has to do with the frame rate, I just dont know what to do about it.

My Goal.....a VCD compliant (352X240) resolution WITH black bars and preserved aspect ratio that I can play on a 16:9 HD television -- that DOESNT make Luke any more high-pitched sounding than his whiny ass already is (i should fix this first, eh?). I'll be more than happy to share this file and an hour with my sister with anyone who helps me fix the problem. And I WILL delete this redundant post (if possible) after I gain the knowledge. I'm a newbie, and currently too ignorant to know which of the solutions I've seen posted thus far will work with my setup.

I'd like to stick with Vdub, TMPEnc. and Nero, so tailor responses toward those programs unless it is impossible to do, in which case I'll download whatever else I need.

    Thanks folks,

    Woob

    Hi Bud,

I am not clear on teh SOurce Aspect in TMPG, whether VGA 1:1 wil hurt. I did just do a bunch of DivX rips using it though.

I'd recommend, stripping out the audio to wav in Vdub

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

Then frameserve the Video end of it into TMPG, while doing any of your filters, and resizing to 352 x 240 in Vdub

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm

I'd recommend doing a 5 minute test run (Use your Source Range in TMPG to pick a portion of the Vid, Encode it, and Burn it). Then test it out on the tube.

It'd be worth the sacrifice of a cdr to see the results and confirm the whole ASPECT RATIO area... This should get you all set up. Enjoy

    Read, read,read.
If you do not want to test and encode, this is the wrong place. 1:1(VGA) full screen (keep aspect ratio) is correct. A more advanced (and optimized) resizing you can calculate with FitCD. http://forum.vcdhelp.com/search.php
You have to convert the framerate. http://www.vcdhelp.com/convert.htm
