Ok, well, I recently bought a Panasonic DVX100 only to realize it doesn't seem to work with my IMac. the IMac has firewire 400 and 800 ports on the back. Currently I have a mybook connected to the 800 and the camera to the 400. When the camera is turned on, it seems to affect the functionality of the mybook. Everything is fine when I turn the camera off or unplug it. Final Cut Pro will not see the camera, and neither will the mac when I goto About this Mac/More Info/Firewire.

I did some research on the Apple forums and saw that this is indeed a documented issue (as ridiculous as it is). Would getting a 4 pin to 9 pin cable, and plugging the camera into the mybook then go from the mybook to the 800 on the IMac work, or did I just throw 1200 away on this camera? Thanks!

I don't believe chaining through any other device is recommended practice for video transfer. You want your camera to plug directly into the iMac. If the camera is truly that incompatible with the iMac then the first step should be to try to return it and get something else.

have you tried the camera without the mybook attached. turn it all off, unplug everything, boot, and plug in the cam to see if it's found.

Yep, I tried plugging the camera in with out the mybook connected. When I did that, the mac hung up upon bootup on a white screen. Just to be sure it wasnt the camera, I tried it out on a friend's mac pro and it worked fine. I have seen a few posts on the apple forums about the DVX not working with the iMac. Strange that my DVX100 won't work, but I have used my buddies DVX100B and that worked fine.

Is it possible to plug into the mybook and capture directly to that? Is that not recommended? Thanks for the help guys.
