I apologise for my request if looks odd to somebody but I'm looking for a good MP4-2/H264 video encoder which should NOT be based on ffMpeg as I don't like the outputs ofthis engine.
I can run it on any platform: Mac, WIndows (7) and Ubuntu Linux.
    Many Thanks

Xvid4PSP uses X.264 for encoding. Download one of the 5.3x versions, rather than the new V6 betas. The older versions have more templates and profiles.
MeGUI also uses X.264 I believe.

AVIdemux and Handbrake are the only x264 GUIs mentioned here that operate on Mac/Windows/Linux.
StaxRip, meGUI, and RipBot264 are Windows only, but really popular, too.
Also, DivX Plus Software for Windows has the DivX264 encoder based on the MainConcept SDK and it's free to make H.264/MKV files EVEN AFTER THE 15-DAY TRIAL. The trial part of DivX Plus Converter is only for the DivX/.divx video, so you'll be able to continue to make DivX Plus HD files with DivX Plus Converter even after the trial.

Thank ypu very much: Handbrake has the best interface on the market, IMHO, unfortunately its MP4s I've ecoded have lots of problems with different players/platforms while MP4/xvid have greater compatibility. That's way I'm avoiding ffMpeg based encoders.
