im looking at the prospect of buying a hd camcorder with a view to producing a quality HD file for editing

is there any particular type of file that i should be looking for?

ive heard of avchd but from what ive gleamed from this web site its quite a lossy file type.

some camcorder specs talk of outputing 'live hd' but oive no idea what that means..

HDV cams are a good all round consumer choice. canon hv40 or 30 might fit. with the extra money buy an add-on mic, extra batteries, and the best tripod you can afford/carry.

HDV is easy enough for most editors to handle.
