A reviewer claims these Verbatims are actually Riteks. Who is wrong?:
- The reviewer who is mistaken?
- TigerDirect for selling bojack, mislabeled media?
- Verbatim for trying to foist off garbage?
(Apparently the packing of the cartons to the customers sucks as the wrappers are coming loose.)
If the reviewer is mistaken, this is a tempest in a teapot. However, if it's either of the latter two, somebody's teat is in the wringer.![]()

Most customer reviews are left by idiots.

He's not necessarily wrong, however. Verbatim has started selling "value" CD and DVD media in retail stores that's tapewrapped that most definitely is not MCC media. Example: http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0316645

The reviewer at that exact product link is still an idiot. Those are MCC discs. Or at least those are SUPPOSED TO BE according to the image. Maybe Tigerdirect did a bait-and-switch?
Value Series Verbatim media (a different product at TigerDirect) can be Ritek or CMC. Those started to appear more and more in recent months, at several online retailers. Saw a post about Verbatim and Verbatim Value Series DVD blanks late last year (Dec 2009).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

There really isn't anything about the image that says MCC or not MCC (no mention of DataLifePlus or Azo). I did find a better quality image of the pic and it said "Made in China" on the label, take that however you'd like.

Bojack? I had to look that one up at http://www.urbandictionary.com. It's not really helpful in an international forum like this to use terms like "bojack". I'm a native English speaker and I've never heard that one before.

That exact image is MCC004 DVD+R, probably from the CMC plant in mainland China. Remember that Taiwan is ROC, island off China. I've used a couple hundred of these discs, they're all fine, made same as MIT/MII/MIUAE counterparts. The discs were somewhat rare in the USA, only saw them in fall 2009. Microcenter in Dallas had a ton of them in August/September. Most of them lacked the outer Verbatim label, and some were also MIT. Most people cry about the crap tape-wrap packaging. Of course, they don't want to pay for the nicer spindles.
The RITEKF1 received by the person was probably the Value Series line of media, substituted when the other discs at the same price ran out. To TigerDirect, one Verbatim is the same as another -- they don't any better.
I also didn't know what Bojack was, but it's the wrong word here:
