Again, it only happens when playing back on my 50" Tv, when viewed on my computer there is no white bar.

I just want to know how to remove it, if i have to re-encode the video that's fine, but if there is some way to do it without that would be better.

    Ripped from iTunes how ?
The PS3 does not play mkv files natively, so how are you getting it to the PS3 ?

  3. I downloaded it off itunes

Looks like something went wrong during the process though, none of the other ones I've used have ever had the problem, but i just want to fix it because its the best quality available for that season.

    I'm remuxing it with Xvid4PSP to MP4.

Does it play OK on your PC ? (The remuxed MP4, not the MKV file)

  5. Yeah the file plays 100% fine on both PC and PS3, but when playing back on my PS3 it has a aprox 1" white bar on the right side of the screen.

But it's not the ps3, because it happens if i try to playback on 360 aswell, and like i said i've never had this problem with any other itunes rip before.

Also it's the entire season that was ripped that looks like this (Season 3 of smallville), so yeah it must be when i ripped it off itunes that something went wrong, but like i said i just want to find a way to fix it.

The simplest fix is to buy the series yourself. Then you wouldn't have this problem, and wouldn't be tempting the wrath of the mods talking about pirated videos in contravention of the site rules

  7. Oh well let me rephrase my question

I bought and downloaded this myself, but there must have been something that went wrong in the process and i didn't notice it until now because i didn't play it back on my ps3.

And I'm not going to spend the 50 dollars again to download it cause I'm not rich.

There, now no mods can cry about it right?

    Well, I'm convinced

Have you tried muxing it with another tool ? I like XmediaRecode and it has since replaced Xvid4PSP for my day-to-day encoding. It can also copy the audio and video content and just remux to another container.

Otherwise you may have to actually re-encode the video using a PS3/Xbox preset to ensure compatibility. I wouldn't trust Apple as far as I could comfortably spit out a rat when it comes to encoding for quality. If quality was their top priority they would not have released the Apple TV, then encoded to down to the lowest common denominator.

  9. Yeah I've tried a couple other ones, they all end up with the same white bar.

I know its probably enevitable that I'll have to re-encode, i just want to know what i have to do to remove the white bar in the process, and for that i need to know why it's there in the first place.

As for the quality, since the earlier seasons of smallville were released before HD it's really hard to get your hands on 720 video of it, and apple is one of the few that does it, the other being HDnet tv that i know of, but the quality is lower than apple's.
