Yes, you can do this and we have several guides on different ways to do it. Look under "All guides". The DGPulldown method is the quickest way, but it's not supported on all DVD players. Note that conversion may cause you to lose the PAL menus. In my opinion if you have to do this more than 2 times it's not worth it and you'd be much better off to buy a converting DVD player and not do any PAL->NTSC conversions.
And you need to explain what you mean by "pal files" because if you are talking about Divx/Xvid, no conversion should be necessary. The guides I am talking about are all for PAL DVD to NTSC DVD conversions. I am assuming that you want to do DVD conversion. -
i would just go to wal mart and buy a Philips dvp 3982 for $45...it plays everything...converting from pal to ntsc works but in the long run its just less hassle and saves time to grab a cheap dvd player that does it for you

Would not recommend a Phillips. My last two each barely lasted a year. Won't buy another.

I know their brand is considered low ball, but I bought a Coby DVD298 for 42 bucks online, and it's the greatest "play anything" dvd player I've ever gotten. (And I've had quite a few, starting in the days of the Sampo cult) Even plays files off usb stick and flash card, and does great upconversion to 1080p. Liked it so much I wound up buying a second one for the bedroom after having the first one in the living room for a couple of months.
One thing I've recently come to realize about HDMI is that it's actually capable of playing both PAL and NTSC signals. So instead of setting the Coby to convert everything to NTSC, I just leave it on "auto" and let the output be whatever format's on the disc. PAL looks so much better that way than being converted to NTSC. -
I am convinced that stacking and lack of air flow shortens all modern electronic life.
Processors are getting more and more compressed in size and they run hot, I have had Philips players for years and never had a failure.
However my current recommendation is the Pioneer 420PAL/NTSC problem solver.
USED TO BE A UK Equipment owner., NOW FINISHED WITH VHS CONVERSIONS-THANKS
