  1. Hello
I ahve been trying to convert some music video clips from various avi codecs and frame rates to a DVD using toast. So as to make a complete NTSC disc, toast requires that all source files also be in NTSC.

I have generally been using ffmpeg for this, but with mixed results. I am sure I have picked the correct settings, and I am using the mpeg4 mencoder conversion, with 29.97 frame rate. However, the resulting file usually comes out at 25 fps. If I select the file and load in to ffmpeg, sometimes it says frame rate is 29.97, but both QT and toast still see it as 25.

THis occurs on both the older version of ffmpeg, running on 10.2.8., as well as a later version on Tiger (0.9k I think)

I ronically, mpegstreamclip is able to complete the conversion. Generaly I prefer ffmpeg for its simplicity, but I find its reliability to be spotty. Any suggestions?

    thanks

I thought Toast would offer to convert all clip to NTSC when it discovers that some clips are in a different format/framerate?

I have never seen ffmpegX covert to 25 fps when instructed to convert to 29.97 fps.
Perhaps you deviated from the proper order that ffmpegX requires? (1) Open file (2), Set settings, (3) Encode.
If you switch (1) and (2), then the program may loose some settings, such as framerate, as it detects the source file framerate and will suggest that as default target framerate.

  3. Hi
toast asks if I want a DVD with mixed content "may not play on some players"

I am using the procedure you describe, but for some reason, the fps is not changed. I was thinking it could have been a problem with source material, but mpegstreamclip handles them fine. I also tried it on several different cpu's and OS's, including an MBP with 10.5.???.
