First of all I didn't know where to put this so sorry if it doesn't go here.

Ok so I have philips dvp5990 that i have hooked to my tv to play my divx files with the usb input that it has. I have all my avi files in a 1tb self powered externall hdd and that has been working fine for me. Was wondering if I could find a tv that had usb and i could just hook my hdd to it and have it play. well that when i did a little searching and found this tv. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=42PFL7704D/F7&scy=US&slg=en anyone have any experience with a tv that has usb built into it and that plays avi/divx/xvid files. With this tv i wouldn't need my current dvd player. I only have it bacause of the usb-divx playback on my tv. Also wondering what the limits of the usb would be on this tv.

Multimedia connections: USB memory class device
Playback Formats: MP3, JPEG Still pictures, DivX 3.11, DivX 5, MPEG2, XviD, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Page 34 of the manual has detail on the USB port requirements. Hard disk is mentioned in this context.

    USB Memory Device Issues
    • Devices connected to the USB port of your TV must be “Mass
Storage Class” compliant. If your device (digital camera. MP3
player, portable hard disk, …) is not “Mass Storage Class”
compliant it will not be detected by the content browser of the
    TV.

    • The following subsets of the Mass Storage Class speci
    fi cation are
    supported:
    • The implementation of the TV is based on the “Universal Serial
    Bus Mass Storage Class Speci

fi cation Overview” (v1.2, June 23,
2003) including all documents referenced by the document. The
document can be found on the USB standardization website
    (www.usb.org).

    also

    • Full support of the USB Mass Storage Class Bulk-Only Transport
    (bInterfaceProtocol = 50h).
    • Full support of SubClass Code = 05h; SFF-8070i spec.
    • Full support of SubClass Code = 06h; SCSI transparent
    command set.
    • For large USB memory devices, when you are in the Content
Browser, it may take a long time before you can access your

    fi les.
    • When using a USB portable hard disk, and due to the high
power consumption of the hard disk, it is advised to use the
external power supply of the portable hard disk to guarantee
    proper working under all conditions

If it was me, I'd take the drive down to the TV store and try it.

Well I did already read the manual before posting. Just wanted to know if anyone has had any first hand experience.
