  1. Dear All,
Comparing Del P1909W and Philips 190s1sb, which is better to buy? For photographic editing and general use?

The only thing made by dell is the outer casing ... power supply, main board from other companies like benq, asus, ect ... and here I thought they were quality ... after pulling one apart I certainly changed my mind ... not phillips but viewsonic is my choice.

Some models have very low viewing angle's and affect viewing of video's ... lg certainly lands in this group ... viewsonic and acer are far better ... bottom of the barrel would be asus ... we simply cannot get enough parts for them.

"photographic editing" ... I had many conversations with salesfolks and most are idiots just trying to suck the consumer to go bigger is better as it suits their bottom line ... it's nothing more than a ripoff and a load of bull ... go with what you feel give's you best value and viewing pleasure at a comfortable distance ... screen resolution should be high on the list for photo editing but no need to go overboard.

In your case ... go with philips.

If you're doing photographic work, you'll want a IPS LCD (truer colors and better color accuracy over a high degee of viewing angles).

For the money you're planning to spend, I recommend visiting the Dell Business Refurb site (http://www.dfsdirectsales.com) and looking for the 2007FP monitor. It's hit and miss, you may have to keep checking to see what's in stock, but I got two 2007FP monitors that are highly rated for graphics use for ~$170 each, shipped to Hawaii. I haven't checked if they're IPS LCDs (Dell used two different types of LCDS for these monitors), but the color is great! These are $400 new and still being sold new by Dell!

They're not widescreen, but the native resolution is 1600x1200 which is higher than the P1909W or 190s1sb. They are used (they come with a 100 day warranty), but they're way better than than either of the monitors you've listed.
