    Hi,

I was wondering if you can create region free dvd's.

I have a few DVD creator programs, Sony Architect is one of them.

The DVD's I am creating are both NTSC and PAL.

My region free DVD player or my PC can play them both, however my other DVD players can't.

I just downloaded AnyDVD, and when I burn my pal stuff 720x576 it will not play on my NTSC player

That just means your other players won't play PAL material, or convert it so you can view it on NTSC.

It's not related to region coding - and you can't normally add region coding to a disc, anyway, as I recall.

Maybe, cause my DVD players says Not Supported, it doesn't say anything about a region code.

My other DVD players said "NOT NTSC"

Yea in the Sony Architect you can make it 720x480. But when u change the frames per second from 25 to 29 doesnt that mess up the video somehow?

  4. I always like to know the why;s, why are you doing this?

If you are creating PAL dvd's for PAL users, you can almost certainly not bother as I believe all PAL land dvd players will play NTSC DVD's and many PAL sold dvd's players are region free, all home made dvd's are region free by the way, there would be no reason to make them region coded unless the creator wanted to be awkward !

    Victoriabears,

My current DVD collection? Is half Region 2 and half Region 1.

I am working on two sets of videos to move to DVD, VHS which will never be completed and a bunch of PAL Tapes.

So I just wanted to play them on all my players and if I made a copy for a friend it work on their DVD players.

  6. ah.. so you are creating dvd's from pal vhs , and have pal(region2) dvd's that you want to share with friends who do not have the multi region(pal enabled) dvd players.

I have similiar problems with friends/relatives who go out on their own and buy stuff !

The easiest way is to make sure friends and relatives only buy dvd players once they have consulted with you, that leaves you pal vhs collection to get to dvd as an issue.

It is usually best to leave stuff in its original resolution rather than converting. however, I have used tmpg express to convert pal <> ntsc and it works fine, you need to concentrate on the pal/ntsc issue as region encoding is not really relevant to your project, backing up a dvd makes the backup region free (using any dvd/dvd fab etc).

Are you using a capture card on your pc to capture the pal vhs tapes?

The PAL tapes are converted in the UK, the VHS stuff is converted in the USA.

For whatever reasons PAL tapes play fine on my VCR's. I tested it out and it worked no idea why?

The formats are kept the same. They are not changed. Well sometimes by mistake

The only time it would be changed if I played back a region 2 dvd's or PAL DVD's on a region free player and than recorded it on my DVD recorder, which I did a few times. When I did it I was not even thinking about it, I was just pulling clips from a bunch of DVD's.

When the data is than on the DVD's it really doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is if the player can play it. Yea I want to keep the formats the same.

On this massive project so far I have completed zero DVD's. I have a lot of material however it is still being planned out.

  8. Yes , a workaround can be playing a dvd of one format and outputting in another to a dvd recorder, obviously you lose the menus but it can be a quick and sometimes successful way of converting dvd's pal<> ntsc. and indeed the quickest.
