My best wishes for the new year !

    My question is the following:
I have connected to my motherboard " ECS X58B-A " a small 5.1 audio cinema set.
(Not in SPDIF output!. "A port" from the card to center & woofer speakers, "B port" to back surround speakers, and "D port" to front speakers)
When i make the test of the driver, THERE IS a seperate sound to EACH speaker !

However, playing an AC-3 movie it sounds like "prologic", noway like "DOLBY DIGITAL".(What happens with the surround speakers?)

I have installed both "FFD show" and "AC-3 filter", and i' ve adjusted the AC-3 filter in "3/2+SW5.1channels" in the output format option.I notice that "input levels" come only from the L and R speakers ! (Can i change it ?)

    Do i miss something?
I would be happy, if there is a way to fix that...
    Thanks for your time!

  2. ffdshow includes an AC3 decoder too (be sure to set it to 5.1 output). Which is being used when you play your AC3 videos? What player are you using? It may have its own AC3 decoder and not using either ffdshow or AC3 filter.

Check in the control panel for audio management and confirm output is setup for 5.1 speaker out put .... the rest then comes down to what the default decoder dose with a given source

Ffdshow allows for adjustment for channels but then not all players will default to using it ... you have to check the players options to confirm

From ms ... some technical info regarding possible features found and audio stack under vista specifically for media player

  5. MPCHC has its own internal AC3 decoder. Go to View -> Options -> Internal Filters. In the Transform Filters box make sure AC3 is enabled. Double click on it. Select the output options there. You may have to exit MPCHC and restart it for the changes to take effect.

Or you can disable MPCHC's internal AC3 decoder and use an installed DirectShow decoder (ffdshow, AC3 filter). While playing a video you can right click on MPCHC's video window and hover of Filters to see the list of filters being used. Select the AC3 filter to access its internal settings (if MPCHC's internal AC3 decoder is being used you can also access its settings this way). Many decoders also put their config dialogs in the system tray and their settings can be accessed from there.
