    Hi.

I would like to rip a TV series DVD. Not the whole DVD, but each episode.
As I want the quality to be exactly the same as on the DVD, I don't want to re-encode anything.
But I want to be able to change the audio tracks and subtitles when watching. (also I wanna delete the audio tracks and subtitles which I don't need).

What software should I use and in what format should the file be? VOB, MKV or anything else?
I want to play the files with Windows Media Center.

Rip to iso files or just the video_ts folder and use a plugin for windows media center that supports it, like http://www.mymovies.dk/ and http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation.aspx?Page=Playing%20ISO%20Images

Because you wont be able to convert to mpg or mkv and be able switch audio track and subtitles with wmc.

Use DVDDecrypter (or another newer ripper) to get the DVD onto your hard drive.

Use SMARTRIPPER to strip out an individual episode (however they are organized).

Use IFOEdit to strip out unwanted streams.

Also, PGCEdit could do all you want and still retain a DVD structure, which is probably what you really want.

I have no idea on what is needed by WMC, file wise.

Or use dvd shrink in the reauthoring mode, choose the episode and output a new dvd folder, repeat for all episodes and then use mymovies with wmc.

No no. I don't want an ISO file or DVD structure.

In Windows Media Center I want to have a folder for "XXX - Season 1".
In this folder there shall be all the episodes of season 1 (a single file for each episode).

What is the right format to choose if I still wanna be able to change audio tracks and subtitles?

Maybe it will work with MKV but I haven't tried it in wmc. Google for mkv subtitles windows media center.

Then can you use MakeMKV to make a mkv for each episode without recompression.

You are right. I made an MKV of an episode with 2 audio tracks and 3 subtitle tracks.
But in WMC I can not switch between them?

So, there is no way to get a single file of an episode where I can switch audio and subtitle in WMC?

Use VLC to play them - you can switch audio and select whatever subs. You might also consider saving each episode as one long VOB file intact.
There are a few programs that will do that including DVDDecrypter.
SONY 75" Full array 200Hz LED TV, Yamaha A1070 amp, Zidoo UHD3000, BeyonWiz PVR V2 (Enigma2 clone), Chromecast, Windows 11 Professional, QNAP NAS TS851
