I'm at my wits end here. I want to convert an MKV file to a Dual Layer DVD that can be played on my standalone DVD player. There will be lots of conversions and reencoding involved, and I'm okay with that. I've tried all sorts of guides and programs, but I can't get anything to work. I'm pretty handy on computers, but when it comes to video encoding, I'm not very good at all.
    So, here's what I've got.

The file is an about 8 gig .mkv file. Inside, it has the following tracks:

    1. Video (MPEG4 AVC)
    2. Audio (DTS 6 channel I believe)
    3. Subtitles (They were in .srt format when I extracted them. UTF8)
    4. Chapters (There are 25)
    5. I'm not sure....

I have to have the subtitles, and I don't care if they're burned in or not. They will always be on. (It's a bollywood movie)
I'd like to put it on a Dual Layer DVD so that I can keep it as high quality as possible. I know it won't be HD anymore, but that's okay.

Can someone please let me know what I should do to get this converted?
    Thank you!

    P.S. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

ConvertXtoDVD or if you like free tools try AVStoDVD.

If they dont find the subtitles then extract the srt from the mkv using mkvextract.

I'll start that running right now. For future reference however, are there any free programs to do this?

    Thanks!

Anyway, THANK YOU!! Why are awesome little gems like this always hiding? This is exactly what I've been looking for for a long, long time.
