  1. When I use TMPGEnc to convert .avi to mpeg the video comes out looking all purple. This doesn't happen when I use AVI2VCD but that takes much longer. Is there anyway to fix this??

  2. If you have the angelpotion codec installed remove all trace of it. Also try re-installing DivX cause this sounds like a common problem with this codec.

  3. Thanks! I gave this a try but I'm still getting the same result. Is there anything else I can do? I deleted angelpotion from my registry, then I unistalled DivX and reinstalled it. Same thing though. I'd hate to go back to using AVI2VCD because it's too damn slow.

  9. It's Tmpgenc 12j, I tried uninstalling all my codecs and Tmpgenc then reinstalling them. Didn't work though. It's just portions of the movies that get kinda hazy. Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

  10. Its not Tmpgenc's fault. I had this problem before, and it was in adobe premiere too. I just installed a new divx codec
(4.11 or something), and it stopped getiing purple.

  11. I have the same purple problem but it seems that its the worst in formats where the original is widescreen and the purple comes in and out every 5 seconds on my dvd player (eg. bandits or mothman). And i've just used one of the packs nimo (not the angel one) and DivX Codec 4.12 and i still have the problems making vcd's. The files also look better in avi mode playing it with morphus or windows media player, can somebody please help us out.

  13. I haven't tried it yet but I am about too... If AVI2VCD does the trick then I would suggest sticking to this until we can come up with a concrete solution. I have the latest DivX codecs and the latest version of TMPGEnc. Someone in another forum said that raising the priority of DirectShow in environment to 2 and all others to 0 would work, tried this, all it done was reduce the amount of time the purple appeared, although it became more frequent. I'll try AVI2VCD and let you know how it goes.

i got rid of the purple stuff like so =got to
    option/environmental setting/vfapi pluging=then put the priority
of the direct show multimedia file reader to 2 or more and let the others at 0,if still works weird put the priority to 5.

  15. I've tried changing the environment mods but it didn't make any difference. The reason for this is because the original was having the same problem, when I copied the original AVI to CD and tried it on my friends computer it worked fine. Firstly he did not have the Divx codecs or the nimo pack. Installing the Nimo pack did the job without having to install Divx. So thinking that Divx might be the problem I uninstalled it and tried again, the movie still run but the purple was still there.

So, how come when I play the movie on his computer it works fine but when I play it on mine I get the purple? I think I have the answer but I will need everyones help to prove it. Read on....

Have you ever run a quicktime movie on your machine, if it's a fairly large one you may have noticed things get a bit blotchy after a while and sometimes the movie will stop playing altogether? The obvious reason to this is do with your graphics card and processor. So here's my theory:

Even though it's an AVI and your computer is more then capable of running it the performance of your machine will still effect the visual quality of the movie, in .MOV's this might be huge pixels filling the movie area, in .AVI's this is likely to be the purple haze we all experience.

I'll know for sure in about two weeks because I'm buying a 1.7Ghz Athlon processor and a new motherboard (and hopefully a new HDD). I'll let you know the outcome.

In the meantime all those people getting the purple haze post your machine specs here.

Mine is a 550Mhz processor, a GeForce 2 64MB 400Mhz Graphics card and a really poor HDD. If we examine other specs we should soon be able to either prove or disprove this theory.

Soon as I have new bits setup I'll be sure to let you know.

    Best of luck!
