i have a digi camcorder and tried ulead software but the end result is very blocky(ish) when i watch on my dvd player(transfered to vcd)is the any software out there that can capture straight to mpeg cause i heard this is the best quality, cause at the moment i have been told i capture avi and it transfers to mpeg which means i lose a lot of quailty.so ive been told to get soft ware that captures in mpeg, would like ur advice guys,
by the way im capturing through a firewire card,my specs r:
    athlon 1600xp
    512mb pc2100 ddr ram

  2. Capturing straight to mpeg is not real good quality wise. The best way is to capture to avi using the HUFFY codec as it is a lossless codec. Then convert to mpeg in whatever encoder you use you will lose some quality due to compression but not as much as going straight to mpeg.

Also AVI is better for editing before converting to mpeg hope that helps you out but if you still want to capture to mpeg i reccomend winVCR as i us it to capture cartoons for the kids as theyd watch anything ythe quality doesnt matter to them as much as it does to me also have a look in the tools section as there is a couple listed

  4. As mentioned, you should always capture AVI, at 720x480, 48khz, edit it down, then convert. Not sure what kind of captures you'll get with one hard drive. You really should get another drive, 40 or 60gb, to capture only, then edit from the OS drive.

I haven't converted anything to VCD yet, so can't help you there. My output is back to DV cam or VHS tape (sorry, low tech family members to share with.) :)

  6. i use the Ulead 3.0 (that come with Asus Geforce 6600TVR) and using a analog cam i usually capture to make VCD.
    my settings are:
capture video frame size 352x288 25fps
    AVI UNCOMPRESSED
    stereo 44.1khz

then save using codec 4.12 Divx at 6.000 bps
it takes a wild to save

then using TMPGenc, convert de avi file to mpg-1 (vcd)

to burn Nero is ok or EasyCdCreator 5
    i can´t use CDRdao
this is my experience, try to see.
    till nxt time
