Ok I have the hdpvr 1212 capture unit from hauppauge. I have had this message before. The annoying thing is it cuts off the recording and you have to start all over again.

It comes up with a message that there is only 250mb or less storage space and aborts the capture. Of course I have over 300gb free on the internal harddrive I'm using for recording.

I looked at the faq's on the hauppauge website and didn't see anything. I looked at a few pages on a google search for this website and didn't see a direct connection.

Since this has happened more than once I know its not a fluke. It's not totally annoying but losing an hour dubbing is irritating.

Has anybody else had this message? I have been able to continue recording after exiting the program and starting over.

Edit - oh and of course its windows vista premium 32bit and the drive is ntfs. it actually recorded to a 5.5gb file for an hour and half at 7mb/s with 5.1 audio. It just didn't keep recording to the end of the two hour movie.

I don't have the version number in front of me but it was just updated the other week. With Media Extreme I can now watch in full screen while it is capturing not just windowed. Is that the latest version?

Yes all the drives are ntfs - I have two internal - the os drive is ntfs and my capture drive is ntfs.

  4. Mine's never done anything like that. I've recorded 3+ hour movies at the highest bitrate settings without problems.

Well its good to know its not a severe defect.

I've only had this happen a couple of times. I haven't had it happen enough to nail down symptoms.

As I said this was recording at 7mb/s with 5.1 and I didn't mention the resolution which was 1280x720 and through the component inputs (obviously since I mentioned fiber optic - it can't record standard def over composite and fiber optic can it?).

evening guys.. yeah, I have the 2250 (unused) but not your 1212 issue.

I've had this phenomina, also related to the Pinnacle PCTV Pro* and the ATI MMC software since it would use the percentage as the space tracking mechanism. I never did quite nail down the symtom but I do theorize that it is related to hdd fragmentation, if it doesn't find a large enough free contiguous space to keep a backup as it records then it reports low space or stops recording all together. Very frustrating when you have plenty of hdd space and it can't find a simple contiguous area on the hdd and throw this message every time. I hate that!

    * ( TVCenter Pro 5.4 Update - 12/18/2008 ) -- issue w/ limited space warning suffered only this ver, but prior versions did not suffer this.

@vhelp - thanks for the info. Maybe I'll do a defrag on my capture drive. Wouldn't hurt.
