  1. How can this be?
I encoded Taxi to SVCD using TMPGEnc with @KalEl's SVCD template and I had the movie splitted up in 2 CDs, I used his VCD template and got it onto one CD, and cant see the difference when playing on my standalone TV, not in the fastmotion scenes nor the lowmotion scenes. I'll keep testing this on other movies, but if this doesn't change , I'll keep doing VCD instead.
Btw, the quality was excellent, haven't seen any flaws.

  4. not trying to put down anyone's template or guide but the reason why vcd looked better is because vcd tends to slightly blur the video image causing it to look good.

Now, if you are sitting about 8ft or more away, it seems pretty nice.

However, svcd is more crisp and can be closer to dvd crispness than vcd definitely.
I always prefer svcd over vcd.

  6. I wanted to share this as well. I found this in someone else's post, so i cant take the credit for it, but it does work. Below is the method, and it is a SVCD with a VCD header, but it keeps the SVCD quality.

If you have a player that only plays VCD's then you can do the following steps to play a SVCD with a VCD header with the same great quality of a
    VCD.

There is a easy way to still play SVCD on your VCD player. All you have to do is add a VCD header to the SVCD and it will play on your VCD
player even if it dont except the SVCD's. Just go into TMPGenc and then go to file>>>MPEG tools>>>Simple Mutiplex tab. Now when you add
the movie in the Video Input area it will auto populate the Audio input field. You will wanna change the output file to something else that way it wont
overwrite the original file. Now once you have all that....you will notice that the type is something like "MPEG2 VBR or MPEG2 Super Video CD".
This will populate like this once you add the SVCD in Input field. Now to add the VCD header to the SVCD ...all you have to do is change the
TYPE to MPEG-1 System Automatic. Now once you have done that...hit the RUN button. It will Run and seem to hang and not respond, but dont
fear....its doing the job. So let it sit for 15 - 30 minutes and it will be done. Now you will be able to play it on a VCD player that dont play SVCD's.

P.S. Still burn the movie as a SVCD.
You might receive some kind of violation code, but just continue and dont worry.

  7. this way tends not to me good on the movie as it can cause it to go out of sync real easy and the keeping svcd quality just doesnt convince me cuz its still mpeg1, not mpeg2.

And i think u r throwing the people off cuz first u say it keeps svcd quality then u say it keeps vcd quality??????

    not sounding confident.

You may not want to try this but just stick to makin vcd\xvcd\vcd-x

The hack actually fools the player that it is a VCD, but it doesn't reencode SVCD to VCD, it just changes the header, thus a SVCD with VCD headers . But, yes, it is not an optimal way to get SVCD qual (and it's not even guaranteed to work on every player). But, if you have a Sony NS-300 or NS-400 it's the only way I know of (yet) to play SVCD's, because these players doesn't accept a 'plain vanilla' SVCD.

  9. I know how it works cuz thats how my guide for vcd-x works, it's just way different than this cuz this method makes the compatibility bout as worse as an xvcd.

And, there u have it, u r making a weird ass vcd-x that is highly uncompatible with players.

    This is NOT new.

Do u really think this method is new?

This is not a hack either, lol, what r u hacking?
It does not fool the player man, its just tryin to do what u want it to do.
And, just cuz you think its an svcd with vcd headers, ur wrong-

When the stream becomes mpeg1, the whole movie is mpeg1, not mpeg1 and mpeg2 mix, thats ridiculous.
