Ok im trying to "back-up" Erin Brokovich(89minutes) and am trying to get it onto 2 cd's(SVCD). Did Smartripper/dvd2avi/TMPEG 2.5 wizard(NTSCFilm SVCD Templete). I used a bitrate calculater and it said I should set the BR to something like 1960 or so. To be safe I set it to 1800 /w audio to 192. when I woke up this morning the output file was 1.9gig. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanx

Yep, been there done that. I usually drop it back even like 150 down from what it tells me. Did you use cq_vbr I am guessing ????? Also, did you set your minimum to 0 ?
I think for the bitrate calculator to work well, you'd want to use 2-pass vbr, those values the calc. give you are only good if it's set to 0 as the minimum I think. I'd also recommend scaling them down a little again too.
I got burned 3 times by it and said "**** it" My rips come out flawlessly, just doing a plain old VCD of them so I didn't want to dwell on it.
I'll mess with it when I have more time. All times I was burned was with cq_vbr and I set the quality % way up there which I know inflates the file size....so I believe 2 pass vbr is your answer, but it takes alot of time....Lol....Julia Roberts boobs aren't that worth it Bro
Hope this helped a little...~~~Spidey~~~

The bitrate calc works perfectly. I've done quite a number of movies using it and never had a problem (that wasn't my own mistake).
What settings did you use...CBR, 2 pass VBR or something else?
Did you enter the audio bitrate into the calc as well?
At CBR of 1800 with 192 audio I will get about 54mins on a CD at not great quality. If you did a 2 pass with AVERAGE bitrate set to 1800 and max set to 2528 as the calc suggests you would get a fairly decent video of the same length.
If you use the CQ setting you can not predict file size with the calc. -
Thanx for the replys, I'll mess with diffrent setting.
