I see where others run into the very same situation that I do, it is so maddening. I am not a PC hack and don't even know the ins and outs of video copying. I would NEVER copy protected items with the intent to sell them, But I do love to make back-ups. That said I too am frustrated by failures of good ol decryptor and shrink to process some newer items. I see folks doing this and that, typically BUYING something eventually and it just really gets me down because I can't stand the idea of being taken advantage of. But what I have found out is that if I go the route of RE-Authoring the DVD instead of just trying to decrypt and shrink, THEN I avoid the road blocks and it allows me to proceed! I have one in process right now I reauthored it pulling all the files right off the original DVD and then for the target file I reuse the DVD drive with a new dual density disk ... the option to write came up then and I clicked her to go for it! Almost done as I write this so I'll let ya all know. I am THINKING that it just bypassed whatever chickenpoop method they developed to foil decryptor , cuase they knew their legal efforts had put a stop to further support and update. It looks like it is this easy folks!
